Targets use BIDMAS.
Row and column targets may be negative, but will always be whole numbers.
About Maths Equation Grid Generator
Create arithmetic equation grids for numeracy practice, independent work or classroom discussion. Choose the grid size, how many starting numbers are shown and which operations are allowed. The generator supplies row and column targets for pupils to work towards.
Targets follow BIDMAS order of operations. They may be negative but are always whole numbers; a maximum target setting helps keep the challenge within a suitable range. Use checking and solution controls to review an attempt, or clear entries to try again. Reset puzzle and Reset settings allow you to restart the challenge or change the setup.
Export a puzzle and its solution separately to Word for printed work, or create a shareable link for solving on screen. Generation, checking and export take place in the browser. Try the grid yourself before using it with a class, especially when mixing operations, so you can explain the intended arithmetic conventions.
Are shared puzzles suitable for secure tests?
A play link contains the data needed to reconstruct the puzzle and its solution. Anyone with the link can inspect that data. Use shared grids for learning and practice rather than an assessment that depends on keeping answers secret.
